Each April, during the presidentially proclaimed National Park Week, the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation join together to celebrate national parks and programs across the country and encourage everyone to discover the nation’s diverse natural and cultural heritage. The full week of fun activities kicks off with a fee-free day, the perfect opportunity to explore new parks and discover the wonder our national parks hold.

This year, the first day of National Park Week is April 16th! Take advantage of the free day and get the kiddos out to one of the national parks near Baltimore:

Assateague Island National Seashore
Catoctin Mountain Park
Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Park
Fort Foote Park
Fort McHenry
Fort Washington
Glen Echo Park
Greenbelt Park
Hampton National Historic Site
Harpers Ferry National Historic Park
Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historic Park
Oxon Cove Park & Oxon Hill Farm
Piscataway Park

Even after the fee-free fun is done, National Park Week is a great reminder of all the ways you can show our parks some love year-round. Share your favorite picture from a park visit, become a Junior Ranger, or escape the everyday by tuning into PARKTRACKS, an audio experience featuring the sounds of our national parks (would we call that virtual forest bathing?)
