Have new or gently-used sports gear sitting around? Donate it and help get local kids off the sidelines!

WMAR-2 News is partnering with Leveling the Playing Field Baltimore for the “Pack The Park” campaign at Honeygo Run Regional Park on Wednesday, April 20. They’ll be collecting new and gently used sports equipment donations for local under-resourced youth sports groups.

“When we learned of the mission behind Leveling the Playing Field charity, we knew we wanted to assist,” said Bill Hooper, WMAR vice president and general manager. “Especially post-COVID, we know the importance of enabling youth to socialize and play outdoors together. ‘Pack The Park’ fits firmly with WMAR’s mission to enable positive community connections.”

Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those that can afford to play sports and those that cannot, and the prominent role the cost of sporting goods was playing in that gap. The organization has redistributed equipment to over 100 organizations in the Greater Baltimore area. They collect everything from cleats and shin guards to golf clubs and lacrosse sticks. You can find a full list of accepted donations here.

Pack the ParkCommunity members are encouraged to bring donations to the park’s parking lot at 9033 Honeygo Blvd., Perry Hall, Maryland, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trucks, donated by Von Paris Moving & Storage, will be on site. Additionally, WMAR will be broadcasting live throughout the day and the campaign is supported by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks.

“We are so excited to partner with WMAR on this inaugural Pack the Park sports equipment collection event and help get local kids in need off the sidelines,” said Kaitlin Brennan, Director of Operations for LPF. “Spring is a great time to look through your home, find all of that unused sports gear, and donate it so that all kids have the opportunity to play this season and beyond.”

So clean out the garage this weekend and help level the playing field for local kids!
