Looking for a fun and low-key way to get your kiddo up and moving this spring? Sign your kiddo up for the Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS)!
HKRS is a national, community-based non-profit that provides a fun, inclusive five-week running series for ages 2-14, designed for kids to get active, feel accomplished and lay the foundation for a healthy lifestyle.
Each fall and spring, they offer a 5-week running series of events designed for kids ages PreK-8th grade. The littlest runners run the 50-yard-dash and race lengths increase by age group, with the oldest runners (grades 4-8) running one mile. Kids compete each week for a chance to earn points. At the end of the Series, boys and girls who accumulate the most points in their respective distances are awarded trophies. All participants receive a medal on Week 5.
The Greater Baltimore area has several chapters of Healthy Kids Running Series, including Hereford, Perry Hall, and Towson. The Hereford Healthy Kids Running Series (of which (cool) progeny is proud to be a sponsor!) takes place at Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Parkton.
Don’t worry if your kiddo has never laced up a pair of running shoes… this is a great way to get them moving and introduce them to the sport.
Hereford’s Healthy Kids Running Series runs Sundays beginning April 10 at 4 PM (no race on Easter Sunday or May 8). You can easily register online and it’s just $40 to participate in the whole series.
Want to volunteer or have a high schooler that might like to help to fulfill those community service hour requirements? HKRS Hereford is looking for volunteers, too!
