We know how many were disappointed when Pigtown canceled their annual fall festival — but they’ve pivoted to offer another fun event for families this fall! Introducing the new Pigtown StoryWalk!
From September 25th through October 17th, families can stroll through Pigtown and right into Matt de la Peña’s modern classic Last Stop on Market Street. The walk begins at Enoch Pratt Free Library’s Washington Village branch. From there, families will be directed to the next page of the book which will be found in the window of participating Pigtown businesses. Kids will love listening to the story and exploring Christian Robinson’s illustrations in large scale! After you finish the walk, scan the QR code for a chance to win a copy of the book, a small plush CJ Doll, and $20 in Pig Bucks (Pig Bucks can be redeemed at participating Pigtown merchants).
Last Stop on Market Street is sure to become a fast favorite with your kiddos if they don’t know it already. In 2016, it won the Newbery Medal, Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor. The story tells the tale of a boy, CJ, and his grandmother as they ride the bus across town one Sunday after church. It’s “an inclusive ode to kindness, empathy, gratitude, and finding joy in unexpected places.”
So mark your calendars and plan to take a trip to Pigtown this fall! For more information about the StoryWalk, check out the Pigtown Main Street website.
