Submit a Shoebox Float to the Baltimore Rec and Parks Shoebox Parade

Shoebox parades are big celebrations on a small scale! Residents from across Baltimore are submitting handmade mini floats to capture the spirit of Baltimore and Black History in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2021. The Shoebox Parade will premier LIVE on the Baltimore Rec ‘n Parks Facebook Page at 12 noon on January 18.  Want to submit a mini-float? Submissions are due January 11, 2021. MORE

Take Part in the #MyFlatRanger Project

Your kids can now color and cut out their very own Park Ranger to join them on adventures in their backyard and exploring nearby nature! Have your child think about some of the jobs a Park Ranger does and then take their “Flat Ranger” to help them with those. You can then post pictures of your kids and their  “Flat Ranger” on social media using the hashtag #MyMDRanger. MORE

Head to the Maryland Zoo

Sign-Up for an MLK Day of Service Project with Jewish Volunteer Connection

Join JVC as they move forward Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community on January 17 and 18. Volunteers can engage virtually in provocative learning experiences and a variety of service projects from home, as well as meaningful and physically distanced volunteer projects in the community. Volunteer opportunities that meet vital community needs are available for all ages, abilities, schedules, and comfort level. Participants will have three different ways in which to engage over the course of the two days: 

  • SERVICE “TO GO”: Volunteer Projects To Do From Home
  • ON-SITE SERVICE: Volunteering Throughout the Community
  • VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES: Online Social Justice Learning and Service Project Gathering

Take an Artful Movement Class with the Smithsonian Asian Art Museum

Get ready to flex, bend, and strike a pose! During this live online learning webinar , young yogis will combine breath, stillness, and movement exercises to recreate a work of art, explore the senses, and discover mind-body connections.
