In honor of President Obama, the Modell Lyric is asking students to share the important dreams they have for their lives, communities, and families as part the Dream Big Essay Contest!
Students in grades 5th-12th living in Baltimore City and Baltimore County are eligible to enter the contest with one of the following: a 300-word essay; a one-page poem; or a 60-second edited video. Finalists will have the opportunity to share their work and receive a $100 honorarium.
Interested students are invited to participate in two online workshops to help them craft their essays, poems, or videos. Interested students may contact education manager Ron Kipling Williams at email@example.com.
The entry period for the Dream BIG Contest is from Monday, January 4, 2021, through Friday, March 12, 2021. Submit your work here:
Late submissions will not be accepted.
Finalists will be announced on Monday, March 30, 2021.
The online awards ceremony and video essay viewing is Monday, April 19, 2021, at 6 pm. WBAL TV 11 news anchor Jason Newton will serve as the emcee, and Maryland State Senator Mary Washington will deliver the keynote address.
