Do you have an artist in your midst? Encourage them to submit for Baltimore Center Stages’ s 36th Annual Young Playwrights Festival.

The Festival is BSC’s longest running learning program. This year’s theme is “Eyes on the Horizon” and they are inviting young artists in grades K-12 to send in their new written work for consideration. Work should respond to the question: What do you foresee on the horizon? Up to six pieces will be chosen to receive a professional virtual production produced by Baltimore Center Stage! All 6 YPF student artists will be assigned a professional mentor to help them refine and edit their work before its presented.

This year’s event is not limited to just plays. Through a collaboration with DewMore Baltimore, a youth-driven organization focused on civic engagement through artistic programming, this year’s Festival will be expanding on the idea of what a “play” means. DewMore’s expertise in poetry will allow young artists to send in any kind of written work for consideration.

The deadline for submitting work is February 28th.

Need help getting started? Stay tuned for Baltimore Center Stage’s upcoming guide that will help students write their first play — as well as an opportunity to be guided by teaching artists in an online residency. We’ll keep you posted on when that goes live!
