We know you’ve heard the buzz… there’s a new Mexican restaurant in Towson! That, in and of itself, is awesome news. But the best part? It’s definitely family-friendly!
Located at The Shops at Kenilworth, Felipe’s Taqueria is exactly what families are looking for — especially in the times of the COVID. Their fast-casual approach to scratch-made Mexican food means delicious (healthy!) meals are in front of your kids quicker than you can make them at home. Seating in two different patio areas allows for proper social distancing outside, while fresh air constantly circulates in the indoor space through large, window pane garage doors that are always open when the weather permits.
Did we mention that kids eat free on Thursdays? Let’s just call that a #ParentingWin with a side of margarita. (Definitely order a margarita. They are made simply with tequila, hand -squeezed key lime juice, and house made simple syrup — and they are delicious. Order one to enjoy at the restaurant or order a pitcher to-go with a carry out order!)
Although Felipe’s defines itself as ‘fast casual,’ they are not Chipotle 2.0. Their menu includes traditional Mexican recipes such as chicken tinga, carnitas, and al pastor featured on tacos, burritos, and salads. That means you have a lot of options but aren’t overwhelmed, which is a definite plus when ordering for a family with varying tastes. Similar to other fast-casual restaurants, you order from a central location and food is then brought to your table. Unlike other restaurants, Felipe’s has a full bar.
(You probably guessed that from the margarita comment though, right? Full service is available at the bar, so it’s a fun date-night destination, too!)
Let’s taco ‘bout the kids’ meal for a moment. YES! Felipe’s has a $6 kids meal option for kids 12 and under that allows your child to pick a protein to enjoy alongside rice and beans or a mini-quesadilla. To be honest, my kids were a bit disappointed that tacos weren’t on the kids’ menu, but never fear! They are on the regular menu! The team at Felipe’s is uber flexible and you can change up the protein for each taco that you order. We ordered the three-taco-platter for our two youngest kids to share: two tacos with diced char-grilled NY strip steak and one with citrus-marinated grilled chicken. Unless your kiddo is a very adventurous foodie, you may want to ask that Felipe’s go ‘light’ on the cilantro. Tacos are authentically prepared with heaps of cilantro (along with onion and guacamolillo sauce. Yes, you can ask for pico de gallo instead of guacamolilio, too!).
The unsuspecting crowd-pleaser dish: avocado fries! Yes, you read that right. It’s not something we would have normally chosen on our own, but we had it on good authority from the manager that avocado fries were amazingly delicious and they definitely were. Perfect pairing of crunch and creamy avocado. Even our most discerning pint-sized foodie devoured it.
Prefer to dine at home? Felipe’s has you covered. In addition to their standard fast-casual menu, they currently offer family-style meal options such as Take and Make Tacos (aka “The Family Meal”) with chips and queso that feeds up to four, for just $35. Felipe’s also offers delivery of their full menu through UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub, BiteSquad, and Postmates — so the food can come to you. You can easily order from their website for takeout, too!
Whether you want to dine in or out, Felipe’s is the perfect solution for when your brain can’t handle dinner after a day of work-from-home and/or virtual learning. Welcome to Towson, Felipe’s!
