If you try any of these activities, post pictures to Facebook and Instagram and tag us (#coolprogeny and @coolprogeny). After all, we’re all in this together!

DAY TEN - Animal Safari

Cool Fun at Home: Animal Safari

Explore Outside

Backyard Safari

Grab those plastic toy animals you have lying around and ‘hide’ them in the backyard. Dig out the binoculars and explorer vet/hats. Then send your kids on a backyard safari! Let them take an iPad or phone to take photos of the animals in their ‘live habitat.’ Need a challenge for older kids? Have them create a map of animal hiding spots for the younger kids to use.

Virtual Zoo Trips

So many zoos are offering FREE virtual zoo experiences via Facebook Live. Join The Maryland Zoo weekdays at 11 AM on their Facebook Page for a “Zoo To You” session. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is also offering a daily virtual classroom activity

Animal Games

PBSKids has a ton of animal educational games online. Did we mention they’re free?

Creativity Challenge

Animal Paper Towel Roll Challenge

We know that everyone probably has some paper towel and toilet paper rolls lying around the house. Give them to your child and challenge them to make an animal out of it! Need some inspiration? Check out these ideas from Frugal Fun for Boys!

Animal Charades

GET WILD with a game of animal charades!  Act out your favorite animals – silently – while the rest of your gang has to figure out what you are. Try your best not to make any sounds and only use your body movements  and facial expressions to give clues! Download these free printable charade cards from Buggy and Buddy to help get the fun started!

Animal Exercises

Keep the kids moving, fit and having fun with these hilarious animal exercises from Hello, Wonderful! They’ll love pretending to be one of their favorite animals!

Live Zoo Webcams

If your wild bunch just can’t get enough of the animals, be sure to check out The Maryland Zoo’s live cams featuring penguins, lions, giraffes, flamingos, and their popular goat corral!

While you are at it, virtually visit with  The Smithsonian National Zoo, too!  They have a 24-hour live view of the Asian Elephants and giant pandas, Tian Tian & Mei Xiang.

Animal Tales

Have your child select one of the animals from your backyard safari to write a story about. What would happen if that animal actually showed up in your backyard one day?! How would your child care for it? Have fun with this one!
