The Roald Dahl tale that you loved growing up — and reading to your own children — is coming to life on stage at St. James Academy this weekend! Join them to see the “children revolt” during an imaginative performance of Matilda The Musical.
“I’m in love with the music. Tim Minchin has written spectacularly creative lyrics to go along with an effective and dynamic book,” said director Randi Martin. “I heard the soundtrack long before I read the script and from the first minute, I knew it would be a show I would direct.“
Her favorite musical number in the show? Revolting Children. Get ready to move and groove because that scene has a lot of funk!
This is the first time that the school has produced a show involving students in both the lower and middle schools — and for many students, it’s the first time they have performed! Seeing students come together across the grade levels with such respect and admiration for one another’s abilities has been gratifying for Mrs. Martin and a testament to the #SJAExperience that faculty and staff aim to create within the school.
“The talented cast performs with such enthusiasm and generosity!,” said Mrs. Martin. “Many of the performers have said this is “their favorite show ever”. You can definitely tell how much they love it!”
The production is truly a school community endeavor. Parent volunteers designed costumes, sets and props. The facilities crew assisted with set construction. The technology department helped with special effects. Even the student art club was involved!
You can catch the show on Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th at 6:30 PM, or Sunday, December 8th at 2 PM. But hurry and get your tickets! They’re going fast!
