Two years ago, Brown Memorial Weekday School moved from Charles Street to St. Thomas Church in the Garrison Forest area. This fall, they are making two new big changes: a brand new name and expanded services.
The school is now St. Thomas’ Preschool. Beginning on January 6, they will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The school will continue to provide same vibrant learning environment and program that they have been known for since 1963, but they are adapting to the lifestyles of today’s modern families, too. Starting in 2020, the school will offer five-day preschool for children ages 2 through kindergarten. Families have the option of customizing the days and times their children attend. Children can go to school until noon, or 2:15 in the afternoon, or stay until 5:30 pm if their parent needs extended-day coverage.
“Since moving locations, we’ve found that families needed different options for preschool,” said Kristin Morrow, director of St. Thomas’ Preschool. “Our staff is excited about the changes!”
The school will continue to design experiences around a play-based and nature-enhanced learning model.
“Our philosophy is that children learn best through creative play be it in preschool or kindergarten,” said Ms. Morrow. “Teachers stimulate ideas through stories, information and materials that encourage children to problem solve and use their imagination to take their play one step further.”
In addition to a caring staff, the school has an 52 acre campus ripe for exploring! There are nature trails, play grounds, and natural play spaces to explore. Yoga and mindfulness are incorporated across the curriculum. They even offer story time and Mommy and Me Yoga class for the community.
Curious about the school? Visit their website or join them for an Open House on Saturday, January 11 from 10 AM – 12 PM. They are currently offering rolling admission.
