Let’s set the scene: you’re having dinner and before the table is cleared, one kid grabs a spoon and start belting out Born this Way — center kitchen. The next kid jumps up and starts playing the air guitar, complete with the epic rock star slide. Your third child? She starts drumming on the table. If this sounds remotely familiar, it might be time to enroll your kids in music classes at Stages Music Arts in Cockeysville.
Serving the Greater Baltimore area for the last three years, Stages is a state-of-the-art music lesson, performance, and recording studio. They’ve been offering private instruction since they opened their doors, but this fall they are adding something really (cool) to their repertoire: beginner group instruction.
The new “Front Row” programs are open to ages 8 and older (so you could even get in on the action!) and include: drumming, ukulele, jam session, and guitar. They’ll also be offering group beginner keyboarding lessons in their digital music studio and group singing lessons in their performance space.
Why should you consider group lessons? “Playing music with others is perfect for beginners, as it allows students to build confidence with friends who are at their level,” says Charles Simon, General Manager. “Playing music in a group also encourages positive competition, ultimately encouraging students to practice and improve quickly.”
Not to mention students have built-in authentic performance opportunities during their weekly sessions. Classmates make awesome audience members. (Or hey, maybe your child’s bestie wants to join the fun? This could be the beginning of their brand new rock band…)
Monthly tuition for group-based classes is $98 ($50 if you’re taking private instruction at Stages, too). Lessons just started this week, so if you’re looking for a fall activity — check out their website!
