It’s crustacean season at Mt. Washington Tavern. That means your favorite sea creatures are invading the menu and ‘taking over’ some of the Tavern’s favorite menu items. The results? Pure deliciousness.
But how do the sophisticated summertime dishes — like Cajun Roasted Chesapeake Oysters, Crab and Avocado Stack, and Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta — fare with the pint-sized crowd?
We brought eight kid foodies to the Tavern to test out the menu. They adventurously dived into oyster slurping and all requested seconds. Well, except Bixby, our youngest tester. She thought the oyster shell looked a bit too much like an ear made out of a rock.
Crabby grilled cheese? A huge hit (although, we have to say, the fries were also voraciously devoured. Parker said you should definitely NOT skip the fries).
Lerato loved the Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta, noting that it was ‘very smooth.’ Some of the adults were concerned that the pasta might have too much heat for the littles even though the older kids loved it. Clearly, as evidenced in the photo below, we were wrong.
And while we’re not sure too many kids will walk in and order the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich, Jackson tackled the sandwich like a pro. He does, however, recommend adding a little lemon to enhance the flavor even more.
The surprising dish all of our taste testers wanted — including Bixby? The Crab and Avocado stack. Layers of jumbo lump crab, avocado, and mango. (If we’re being honest, all of the adults wanted it, too!)
The limited-edition Crustacean Invasion Menu is available at Mt. Washington Tavern through the end of July. Make a reservation and take your kiddos on a culinary adventure! You can dine al fresco in the Sky Bar or escape the heat in the Chesapeake Room.
