Get excited! The most talked-about thing on the playground is about to become a reality! Port Discovery Children’s Museum has announced that construction on two new immersive exhibits, the Port Exhibit and the SkyClimber, on January 2, 2019! That means that new space-themed Sky Climber and massive ship that’s part of an immersive Port Exhibit celebrating the Port of Baltimore will open in late spring 2019.

In addition to the new exhibits, Port Discovery will also begin work to improve visitors’ experiences with an efficient new lobby, new nursing area, more family seating areas, a renovated lunchroom and updated restrooms.

Construction on the new exhibits means that the beloved three-story urban treehouse, KidWorks, will be going away. But, in true Port Discovery style, they have planned a pint-sized hoopla to bid farewell. Visitors are encouraged to celebrate Port Discovery’s 20th Birthday and say Goodbye to KidWorks through fun, hands-on activities all December long.

Port Discovery has some fun things planned for all of the littles that love them during construction! Starting in mid-January 2019, visitors and members will be invited to explore a unique and limited-time experience that explores design, building, engineering, and more through playful learning experiences in The Construction Zone in the Atrium. The Construction Zone, sponsored by M&T Bank,  will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission will be free for Members and $5 per person for general admission visitors.

Also starting in late January, Port Discovery will host Pop-Up Play Space at The Shops at Kenilworth. The space feature drop-in educational programs, messy art, and building activities. The Pop-Up Play Space will be open Wednesdays through Sundays and admission will be FREE for all visitors.

Want to play before construction begins? Port Discovery has filled the remainder of 2018 with fun, learning and lots of special events for visitors, members and groups to enjoy, including American Indian Heritage Weekend, Gingerbrick Decorating, Dollar (or Less) Day, Birthday Extravaganza Weekend, $2 Family Fun Night, Winter Break Fun, Noontime New Year and Farewell to Kidworks.
