CAC MakerSpace Family Workshop: Create Your Own Robots That Draw
Saturday, July 14 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Chesapeake Arts Center

Head to Chesapeake Arts Center for family workshops that engage the community by providing fun and easy, interactive activities. This week, use simple household items, makers, and motors to build robots. Volunteers will be there to guide you and assist when needed! Workshops typically run for three hours, but activities will not take the full time. Families are encouraged to pay what you can, and drop in at any point to make something and take it home! Tubing on the Little Falls
Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Oregon Ridge Nature Center

Celebrate hot summer days by tubing down the Little Gunpowder Falls River. Participants must be at least 8 years old and able to paddle their tube around obstacles. Bring a light lunch and plenty of water. Closed-toe shoes are a must and a hat is recommended! Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. MORE

Art in the Park: For Kids! Painted River Rocks

Join teacher Sarah Butcher Art, who delights in capturing urban scenes, for fun interactive classes in the park, where Mount Vernon Place itself will be your inspiration. Art supplies generously donated by Blick Art Materials. In this fun, interactive class for kids age 7-12, the participants will learn about the locally quarried stone that the Washington Monument was built from and execute different techniques for painting smooth river rocks. Story Reading and Puppet Show: “Callaloo: The Trickster and the Magic Quilt”

Join Callaloo Kids in a live story reading and an award-winning puppetry performance on their new book release written by Marjuan Canady and illustrated by Nabeeh Bilal. In search of a long lost patch from her grandmother’s quilt, Zoe and her friend Winston travel to the Gullah Sea Islands where they meet the slick-talking Bruh Rabbit, who tricks them into handing over their quilt and vanishes to the magical island of Sankofaland. With time running out, Zoe and Winston enlist the help of some new friends to catch the trickster and find the missing patch before it’s too late. Appropriate for Ages 3-7. MORE

17th Annual Federal Hill Jazz & Blues Festival

Derby Daze

DERBY DAZE is back!! This Saturday, R. House is the place to bring the kids for a day of family fun! Activities include a home-run derby competition with a surprise guest pitcher, a skate party in the garage and a dunk tank with local celebrities. The home run derby will kick off with the O’s bird. Before and between servings enjoy tunes Banneker may have played on flute, and some men’s vocal harmony from singers who have participated at the Colonial Market Fair and at the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
