Snowballs. Snoballs. Snocones? (No, snocones aren’t a thing). A Baltimore tradition since, well — forever, right? No matter how you spell it, shaved ice and flavoring are staples of summer. Just don’t forget the marshmallow…

our favorite snoballs in baltimore

Walther Gardens

4715 Walther Ave | Walthar | Facebook

The oldest snowballs in Baltimore. We love what Ms. Paula and her brother Matthew have done to Walther Gardens — and the creative snowball flavors they’ve come up with! (Hello, lavender snowball — not only is it pretty, but it tastes as good as it looks. Promise!) Plenty of seating and be sure to make time to shop their handmade goods and fresh cut flowers!

Summer Shack Snowballs

2339 W Joppa Rd | Lutherville | Facebook

One of our favorite stops because it’s run entirely by kids! Sidewalk chalk, jump ropes and enclosed area to enjoy. Can’t be beat.

Padonia Road (near York Road intersection) | Cockeysville | Facebook

Sand + grass umbrellas. Next best thing to an island vacay? In operation for more than 40 years, this family-owned and operated snowball stand has become an icon in the Baltimore area. Tons of flavors and soft-serve vanilla, too!

Opies Soft Serve and Snowballs

1603 Edmondson Ave | Catonsville | Website | Facebook

A staple in Catonsville! Lots of flavors and seating. Legendary menu item? Snowcream. Snowball layered with soft-serve ice cream.

Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company

12020 Greenspring Ave | Owings Mills | Facebook

Lots of parking. Friendly faces. $1 Snowballs. And fire engines.  You really can’t score better with the kids. Plus all proceeds help the fire company purchase medical supplies, new gear, maintain the apparatus, and contribute to the operating budget of the firehouse.

One Sweet Moment

2914 Hamilton Ave | Hamilton | Website | Facebook

150 snowball flavors. Yes, 150 flavors. They offer a special flavor of the day every Thursday (what a fun way to break out of the cherry snowball rut!).  Give the Bahamama Mama a try (pina colada and citrus splash.)

Icy Delights

Dundalk:  7812 Wise Ave | Essex, Middlesex Shopping Centering | Middle River, Martin Plaza Shopping Center | Carroll Island, 2929 Eastern Blvd | Highlandtown, 3930 Fleet St | Rosedale, Kenwood Shopping Center

A small locally-owned chain of snowball stands. Definitely order extra marsh. Note, Icy Delights is closed on Sundays.
