Beatles Family Festival
WTMD | June 23 | 9 AM – 11 AM

Celebrate the music of the best kids rock band ever (and best overall rock band ever) at this indoor/outdoor mini-festival at WTMD! Yellow Dubmarine, an incredible reggae and ska Beatles tribute band, is headlining the indoor stage and there will be acoustic Beatles songs on the outdoor stage. Not to mention the Beatles-themed photobooth from Baltimore Photo Social, coffee from Garrison Forest School, bicycle rides from Race Pace Bicycles and the usual assortment of delicious organic snacks from Eddie’s of Roland Park. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the festival goes until 11:30 a.m. inside and outside the WTMD studios. MORE

Callaloo Puppets at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum

Callaloo Kids is embarking on a multi-city book summer tour to bring their 3rd book release which celebrates Gullah / African-American folklore to communities in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Callalloo Kids  Summer Book Tour includes a live reading of their new book with an award winning puppetry performance. Chrysalis Kids

The Inner Arbor Trust presents Chrysalis Kids, a series of free family arts events running from April to September 2018.  All events are FREE, however, all attendees need a ticket to attend.  Food and beverage available for purchase.  Picnics also welcome (no glass or alcohol).  
 
BUGGED!

Join an ensemble of professional dancers as they creep, crawl, weave, fly, spin, sting, and hatch a captivating cast of creatures to life! BUGGED! will transport viewers into the hungry bullfrog’s fly-filled bog, a busy, buzzing beehive, the chrysalis of the contemplative caterpillar, and the web of the bella Tarantella, just to name a few. Gates open at 9 a.m. for playtime in the Park and the performance starts at 10 a.m. Suggested age 4+
 
Jedi Academy

A long time ago and not so very far away….Learn the ways of the Jedi with Panniken Moonjumper, a true Master of Intergalactic fun and adventure. During this engaging program by veteran family entertainer David Engel your little Jedi Warriors, Princesses and Darth Vaders will be delighted by comic antics, exciting physical challenges, magical mayhem, light saber lessons and a visit from his furry alien sidekick.  Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Wars character.

The grandsons, Jr., is the kids band version of DC-area roots rock superstars, The Grandsons. Kids and their parents will dig the upbeat mix of rock, swing, New Orleans R&B, country, and Latin music we call Americana. Over the past 25 years performing as The Grandsons, the band has noticed that many of their songs resonate with the younger crowd. As the grandsons, Jr., they combine new material learned especially for the younger set, with Grandsons tunes that have always been popular with the kids.

Don’t be square, join the circle! Stages Drop-In Drum Circle class will introduce basic hand-drumming techniques and rhythms. Students will also practice free-style drumming with other percussion instruments. No experience required. Ages 5+. Have a kiddo who wants to learn to strum? It’s easy to play the ukulele! Their $5 Drop-in Ukulele class is a fun and welcoming group class is for beginners ages 8+! (Parents, you can join the fun!) No experience needed. Don’t have a Ukulele? Use one of theirs. Shakespeare in the Park

Believe it or not, Shakespeare IS for kids! At least, it is when presented by Chesapeake Shakespeare Company! Performed outside at PFI Historic Park in Ellicott City, Chesapeake Shakespeare will bring to life the story of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”  When the worlds of mortals and fairies cross paths, mischief and mayhem follow – along with maybe the funniest scene Shakespeare ever wrote. Bring a picnic and enjoy an enchanting evening! The Sunday performances are designed with families in mind. Gates open at 4:30 PM for picnicking and pre-show entertainment including interactions with the actors. Plus, children’s tickets are FREE. Tinkerbell at Adventure Theatre

Definitely worth the drive! Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), recent recipient of three 2017 Helen Hayes Award Nominations, brings to the stage the world premiere play, Tinker Bell, written by Washington, D.C. playwright Patrick Flynn and directed by Adventure Theatre MTC favorite, Nick Olcott (Three Little Birds, Knuffle Bunny). Based on the works of Sir J. M. Barrie, this exciting retelling of the classic Peter Pan story is recommended for all ages and opens June 24, 2018.
