What’s better than exploring Irvine Nature Center’s trails at sunset? Supporting their education programs while you do it!
On June 23, 2018, Irvine will host it’s first-ever Summer Solstice Family Festival and Sunset 5K. Not only is the event a fundraiser for the educational programs at Irvine, it celebrates the opening of the new Bauer Preserve. Festival participants will be the first to explore the new trails!
The Fun Festival starts at 3 PM with crafts, games, food trucks, and local brews. Then lace up your running shoes and join in the Family 1K Fun Run at 5 PM. The 5K Sunset Trail run starts at 6:45 PM.
An after party live music and food trucks starts at 8 PM.
What is the Bauer Preserve? In 2015, a $1 million grant from the Charles T. Bauer Charitable Foundation was gifted to Irvine Nature Center for the sole purpose of purchasing 93 adjacent acres in Caves Valley. That gift allowed the center to double in size. Since then, the Irvine Team has been working to get the land ready for public exploration and making it a welcoming home for native species.
Bauer Preserve is dotted with at least a half-dozen vernal ponds and is a key corridor for migratory birds and other wildlife. It has extended Irvine’s hiking trails to 10 miles of trails, one of which is called The Bauer Path.
Entrance to the Festival is $10 per person (includes the Family Fun Run). 5K registration is $35 and includes entry to the Festival.
All entrance fees go up on Festival Day, so we highly recommend you nab your tickets in advance!
