It’s Wacky and WONDERful week here on (cool) progeny — our ode to summer arts and culture fun in Baltimore! We’ll be sharing all kinds of creative ideas this week, plus our summer arts preview.

Juneteenth Celebration

Celebrate Juneteenth with African American Quilting where your little one will quilt their own quilting block and then play a Quilting Block Story Game by matching the hidden meanings and messages that were sown into quilts! Get game show ready as you play Who Am I? by matching historical African American figures to their respective descriptions, and practice your weaving techniques in Paper Quilt Weaving! MORE

Toddler and Me Yoga

This is an opportunity for children to play games that spark creativity and imagination and improve their sense of well-being. While most children here are too young to understand what stress is, it is not too young to begin fostering a connection to their own bodies. Their adults are invited to encourage, support and help them with poses and songs. Summer ARTventures: Board Art

Summer ARTventure Classes are NEW at Meltdown! School’s Out so celebrate with awesome workshops and mini camps. Drop off kids ages 6+ from 10:30 am to 12pm to make the project of the day. Cost is just $25 per creator. Mediums vary and some paints and projects may stain. We recommend wearing old clothes just to be safe! Drop-In Drum Circle or Ukulele Class

Don’t be square, join the circle! Stages Drop-In Drum Circle class will introduce basic hand-drumming techniques and rhythms. Students will also practice free-style drumming with other percussion instruments. No experience required. Ages 5+. Have a kiddo who wants to learn to strum? It’s easy to play the ukulele! Where The Wild Things Art for Kids!

Join Painted Palette Baltimore at the Zoo for a wildly entertaining night of painting for kids with animal ambassador friends! Kids will get in touch with their creative (and wild) side as an artist guides them through re-creating the night’s featured painting step by step. By the end of the evening, they’ll be amazed at the animal artwork they have created! One adult is required to accompany each child, but the painting activity is for children only. Tinkerbell at Adventure Theatre

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), recent recipient of three 2017 Helen Hayes Award Nominations, brings to the stage the world premiere play, Tinker Bell, written by Washington, D.C. playwright Patrick Flynn and directed by Adventure Theatre MTC favorite, Nick Olcott (Three Little Birds, Knuffle Bunny). Based on the works of Sir J. M. Barrie, this exciting retelling of the classic Peter Pan story is recommended for all ages and opens June 24, 2018.
