We’re half way through our eight week barre at home project with Pure Barre Baltimore! (Yes, we’re bringing the experts to YOU.) This week, we’re taking on Balancing Extension. 

“This move  strengthens quadriceps (tops of your thighs), tones abdominals and seat, and improves balance ”said Nicholette Dunleavy, owner of Pure Barre Roland Park and Pure Barre Harborside. “Be sure to keep toes facing forward and maintain a soft bend in standing knee.”

Pure Barre at Home - Balancing Extension - (cool) progeny


Stand with your feet hip distance apart. Hands on hips. Extend right leg in front of you (off of the floor). Leg is
straight, foot is flexed. Maintain a soft bend in left leg and good posture.

Lower the right leg down (towards the floor slowly) and lift it up (back to starting point) – 4x

Hold your leg up, bend your right leg, then extend – 10x

Hold your leg straight, small circles with the leg (think of tracing a quarter with your heel) – 10x

Reverse, small circles with the leg (in the other direction) – 10x

Small lifts up – 10x

Hold your leg still – 10 seconds

Repeat on the left side.
