Things To Do with Kids in Baltimore, August 7-11


Colorful Slippery Slopes in the Kids Room
11 AM – 2 PM | Maryland Science Center | Inner Harbor

Be ‘cool,’ ‘cold,’ and ‘icy’ while making paintings by using colored ice and an inclined plane at the Maryland Science Center! Free with paid admission. Activity lasts about 30 minutes. MORE


Alpaca Encounters
4 PM – 6 PM | Maryland Farm Park | Cockeysville

Come learn about these fascinating animals. During the program, participants will learn: The origins of Alpacas, Care for Alpacas, and Use of Alpacas. In addition, each participant will have an up-close and personal experience with an Alpaca, and create a craft to take home! MORE

Let’s Summer Science: Ice and Cold
10 AM – 5 PM| Maryland Science Center | Inner Harbor

All week long! Explore ice and cold at the Maryland Science Center. They waited for the dog days of August to explore ice and cool things this summer. Liquid Nitrogen and Dry Ice play a huge role in this week of frozen fun.  Plus, design a snowball launcher and think about snow during the hottest days of the year.  Free with paid admission. MORE


Destination Doug at Play Cafe
10 AM – 10:30 AM | Play Cafe | Hampden

Join Play Cafe every Wednesday at 10am for a reading adventure through some perfect picture books. Using music, movement and fingerplays and fun, this play-based program is designed for their youngest audience birth to 4 year-olds. Oyster Games

Climb aboard the Lil Nippers boat! Tong for oysters and enjoy hands-on activities involving bay critters. Learn about the Chesapeake Bay’s ecosystem and the important role we play in the its recovery. Presented by the Oyster Recovery Partnership. Registration required. Where the Wild Things Art – FOR KIDS!
5:30 PM – 8 PM | The Maryland Zoo | Druid Hill Park

Join the Zoo for a wildly entertaining night of painting for kids with animal ambassador friends! Hosted by Painted Palette Baltimore, kids will get in touch with their creative (and wild) side as an artist guides them through re-creating the night’s featured painting step by step. By the end of the evening, they’ll be amazed at the animal artwork they have created! Natural World of Art: Fairy Houses

Early STEM and Literacy Classes for ages 2-5: By The Campfire
Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle | 10:30 AM – 12 PM | South Baltimore

This series of Mommy/Daddy/Caregiver and me classes are geared towards learners ages 2-5 and help prepare students to get ready for their educational career by building a strong foundation in STEM and Literacy. The classes are held at Francis Scott Key Elementary Middle School in Locust Point, Baltimore, MD, and all proceeds benefit the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms directly. Classes will be held every Thursday 10:30 am – 12:00 pm July 13 – August 17. The suggested donation is $12.00 per class. MORE

Living Classrooms’ Family Education Sail
10 AM – 3 PM | Living Classrooms | Harbor East

Bring the whole family (children age 9 and over) for wonderful day on the water exploring the Port of Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay with Living Classrooms’ Shipboard Education crew onboard our historic education vessel, Skipjack Sigsbee! You and your family will learn to think like ship captains and marine biologists as we sail around the inner harbor, working together to raise and lower sails, perform scientific tests, and explore the commerce, history, natural resources, and ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay. Emoji Cupcake Decorating Class
