As many of you know, our family started the Little Lion Challenge in 2013 — a few months after we brought the Little Lion Man home from the hospital. Our way of putting a little kindness back into the world in honor of one strong, funny, curious, and smart little boy. Year round, the organization works to support families of children with complex medical needs and the medical community that serves those children.
But that’s just a part of Little Lion Challenge Day.
Little Lion Challenge Day is a day of “Guerilla kindness.” We ‘make a BIG roar’ by surprising different organizations and families with acts of kindness each February 11th (our Little Guy’s birthday).
We believe that small acts of kindness make a HUGE roar. And we’re hoping you join us for our 4th Annual Little Lion Challenge Day!
make a little roar on february 11th!
We’re asking for your help. On February 11th, we’re asking Baltimore (and everywhere else!) to make a ROAR by doing some act of kindness. Your act of kindness could be as simple as buying a cup of coffee for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop, surprising the teaching staff at your child’s school with muffins, volunteering for an hour at a soup kitchen, making valentines for a local nursing home… the possibilities are endless.
To get you started, we have a list of 100 Ways to Rock the Challenge. Be sure to get the kids involved.
Then, Facebook, Tweet, Instagram, Blog, Google+, YouTube your kind deed with the hashtag #LittleLionChallenge on February 11th.
It’s as simple as that.

here’s what we did for Little Lion Challenge Day 2016
Last year on Little Lion Challenge Day, Little Lion Challenge delivered 100 books to area NICUs for parents to read to their babies, 150 art kits for pediatric patients at area hospitals, 100 fuzzy blankets for families finding themselves in the NICU overnight, 25 stuffed lions to surprise kids receiving speech services (to help them ROAR!), cupcakes and Order Up coupons for the nursing team at Johns Hopkins Hospital NICU, premie onesies from Kickee Pants to area NICUs, and more. It was the first year our little guy could come with us to make ALL of the deliveries — and the team at Hopkins even sang Happy Birthday as we delivered the care packages!
That’s what we did, but so many others participated by buying a cup of coffee, filling expired meters, donating towels to the zoo, hosting a book drive for a local hospital, making snack packs for a local shelter, cooking soup for first responders… We continue to be so humbled and grateful for how much kindness happens every year on this day. And how much good is accomplished.
