Soar to New Heights with the Blue Angels
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor takes center stage this October 10-17 when the city hosts the inaugural Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore, a grand celebration of Maryland’s rich naval traditions. The weeklong event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities for all to enjoy, on-board public ship tours, educational opportunities, entertainment, a festival featuring Chesapeake-inspired food and drink and most notably, the return of the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. What’s more, all Fleet Week events are free and open to the public! MORE

27th Annual Great Schooner Race
Beginning on Monday, Oct. 10, schooners from throughout the region will dock in Baltimore as they prepare for the start of the 27th annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR). Sailing to promote awareness of the Chesapeake Bay’s maritime heritage and to encourage preservation and improvement of its natural resources, the schooners and the crews will sail from Baltimore to Portsmouth, Va. The public is invited to tour the schooners, which will be docked at Baltimore Marine Centers’ Lighthouse Point Marina, attend the “Salute to the Schooners” at Fort McHenry on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and view the Parade of Sail on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Morning Mumbles with Danny Joe
Go count ten friendly ghosts with Mr. Danny as they read Halloween Countdown by Jack Prelutsky. Morning Mumbles with Mr. Danny starts at 10 AM at Play Cafe. This hands‐on minds‐on program is geared towards 3 to 5 year‐olds and their parents and caregivers. Using simple hand puppets and everyday materials, Danny Joe performs stories from well‐known children’s books, which children and adults can later recreate at home. Hayrides and Apple Picking at Brown’s Farm
Brown’s will offer Hayrides at their Pick-Your-Own farm on Yellow Church Road on Monday, October 10th. Bring the kids out on their day off from school to enjoy a hayride around our beautiful farm. You can also pick your own apples and/or a pumpkin while you are here. Hayrides are $3pp (under age 2 free). Apple picking and pumpkin picking based on how many apples or what size pumpkin you pick (Apples $7-$20, Pumpkins $2 and up). The last wagon boards riders at 5:45pm. MORE

Experience Eric Carle
Arts On Stage brings Eric Carle’s stories to life at Goucher College on October 11th. A Brown Bear, A Caterpillar and A Moon: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle, will bring together old favorites and new friends. Featuring evocative music, stunning visual effects, and innovative puppetry, this triple-bill highlights three of Eric Carle’s most beloved tales. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is joined by a whimsical cast of adventurous animals drawn from the pages of “Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?” The poignant story of a young girl’s unusual quest, “Papa Please Get the Moon for Me“, completes an hour-long performance, which both entertains and educates. Seeds on the Go Story Time at Ladew
Some pop, some float, some drift down a river like a boat. Head to Ladew Topiary Gardens out about the many cool ways that seeds travel. An opportunity for young children and adults to gather together and actively participate in nature themes through literature, poetry, word plays, songs and outdoor exploration (weather dependent) or a craft.  10:30 – 11:15 am – ( Ages 2 to 4 recommended );   12:30 – 1:15 pm –   Ages 3 to 6 recommended ). $5 for Ladew Members, $15 for non-members. Baltimore county parents in the know take the kids to Greetings and Readings at the Hunt Valley Towne Center for an interactive story time with Miss Lee on Wednesdays at 11 a.m.  Designed for kids ages 2-6, there’s a selection of stories, a sometimes craft, and always a free balloon from the balloon desk on your way out. Tales and Tails at Irvine Nature Center
The name says it all. Tales and Tails at the Irvine Nature Center is the perfect combo of kiddie lit with a nature bent and an animal encounter to tie in to the week’s stories. This weekly event is held on Fridays from 10-10:45 and is held outside when the weather cooperates.  This story time is especially popular with the toddler set, but also keeps older kiddos engaged as they wait to see what animal visitor comes out for a visit! Extend the literary experience with a walk on the trails to enjoy the nature and maybe meet some creature residents in the wild .MORE
