We all know the therapeutic benefits of coloring. It’s not art therapy. But it does help quiet your mind and engage your creativity.

Especially when you’re faced with medical stress. Of course, that kind of stress is hard on the patient. It’s also indescribably stressful for their parents, and perhaps even more so for young siblings, who may or may not understand what’s going on.

I remember how hard it was for the Bug to understand why Mommy and Daddy weren’t home and at the hospital all the time after Little Lion Man was born. Or having to wait downstairs in the hospital cafe because it was flu season and she wasn’t allowed in the pediatric wing. In fact, the Bug and Little Lion Man didn’t meet for almost three months.

This year for Little Lion Challenge Day, we’ve partnered with Usborne books to make life a little more colorful for inpatient pediatric patients at area hospital — and their siblings. Our plan is to combine the books in packages with crayons or colored pencils, and allow hospitals to distribute them where they see need. An anxious patient. A fearful sibling. A nervous parent worrying about both of their kids — the one in the hospital AND the one waiting at home, being kept busy by a grandparent or friend.

But we need your help to get to 120 packages!

Usborne Coloring Book Drive - (cool) progeny

Kate Hudkins has kindly set-up an online drive for us featuring six of their most popular coloring books.. All you need to do is go to our online book drive by February 1, 2016 and purchase an item from the wish list. Book prices range from $5.99 to $13.99. It’s that simple.

On February 1st, we’ll close the drive and Usborne will ship us the books for package for assembly and delivery on Little Lion Challenge Day.

We have just 7 days to reach our goal — and we can’t do it without your help! THANK YOU for helping us make a BIG roar!

NOTE: Love the books your seeing from Usborne on their site? They are some of our favorite activity books! But anything you purchase while shopping the wish list will be sent to us as a donation — so if you want to shop for yourself (and who wouldn’t?!), you’ll need to checkout first and then begin shopping at myloveofreading.com.
