Skip the macaroni necklaces this year. Grandma already has more than enough.
Instead, head to Yankee Doodle Art Studio in Cockeysville to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake treasure, written and illustrated by your pint-sized author.
The creative team behind the drop-in arts and crafts space has created a custom process that will lead your child through all of the steps to becoming their own publisher. From sentence starters to art supplies, they have everything you need!
Best of all, you’ll leave with a hardbound book that’s perfect for gifting and any age can participate in the process. Littles can draw and dictate sentences to an adult. Older kids can go wild. Simply adjust adult involvement by your child’s age and abilities. If you don’t have time to complete the book at the studio, grab a to-go kit and bring it back for hardcover binding when complete. Binding takes just 5 minutes.
Yankee Doodle can even make multiple copies of your child’s masterpiece. Chances are you’ll be so proud you’ll want a copy for yourself, too.
Added bonus? Your kiddo might — eek — learn while they create!
how it works: the bookmaking process at yankee doodle art studio
Pick out your book template (they have options with or without lines, as well as comic book frames). If you need ideas, sentence starter packs are available. Brainstorm.
Older kids may want to write a rough draft, while younger kids may want to dive in. Illustrate the cover with markers to make a vibrant statement!
Write the text on each page and illustrate the story in the box provided. Markers and colored pencils (all colors of the rainbow!) are available to use at the studio.
Take your completed book to a staff doodler for binding. Binding takes just about 5 minutes, and they can make additional high-quality copies of the book if you’d like.
Yankee Doodle Art Studio is located in Shawan Plaza, 11341 York Road, Cockeysville. They offer drop-in crafts, classes for all ages, and many birthday party options along with crafty and creative items in their store!
