It seems silly. People of all ages dumping ice on their head — and posting the video to their social media accounts. Would the Ice Bucket Challenge actually raise much funds? Awareness?

The short answer. Yes.

The challenge has now netted more than $22.9 million for ALS Association, who is supporting research initiatives aimed at finding a cure for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. This time last year? Only $1.9 million had been donated to the association. Over the last month, the organization has added 453,210 new donors, according to a recent press release.

The best part? Kids AND adults are loving the challenge. The Bug was challenged first in our family…

And then she challenged her dad…

And the next video is why I think this is such a successful social philanthropic campaign.

{Who wants to do it just once?}

Don’t forget to donate! We did.
