With Free Fall Baltimore and Kids Month both kicking off this week — combined with the bevvy of other family-friendly activities happening in and around the city — you’ve got your pick of how to keep everyone busy this weekend! Check out a great weekly event like drop-in art at the Walters or Kerplunk at the Creative Alliance (check our calendar for more info on those), or hit up an annual festival like the Highlandtown Art Cart Derby or Fells Point Fun Festival. Get your Greek on at Port Discovery with their new exhibit or check out the new IMAX at the Science Center while stopping by for their Cardboard Challenge. Here are our best bets for kid-friendly fun:

Fridays After Five Kick-Off/Aquarium’s Latino Fiesta
The National Aquarium’s Cultural Series, presented by Macy’s, kicks off with a Latino Fiesta!  Enjoy performances from Brazil with Capoeira Sul da Bahia-DC, traditional Mexican folk dances from Bailes de Mi Tierra, learn to salsa from the Baltimore Salsa Company then put those moves to the test and groove with the sounds of Son Tres y Mas!  Also view a special exhibit of Latin American animals & plants and participate in a Huichol tribe art workshop by Mexican artist Francisco Loza & more!  Fun for the entire family — and it kicks off the Aquarium’s Friday After Five Series where admission drops to $12! Tea Trunk Show at Wee Chic
Are you a Tea Collection groupie, too? Want to peruse the latest collection? Wee Chic Boutique in Green Spring Station is hosting a Tea Trunk show this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can chat with a clothing line rep, preview spring styles (you’ll be the first!) and purchase your favorite pint-sized pieces in the sizes you need. MORE INFORMATION

Scarecrow Making and Pumpkin Painting at The Baltimore Museum of Industry
The Baltimore Museum of Industry Farmers’ Market offers a convenient place to purchase fresh local fruits and vegetables; meat and poultry; milk, ice cream, and butter; plants and cut flowers; and a wide variety of artisan goods. Plus, kids are invited to stuff scarecrows and paint pumpkins for the fall! Free to the public and fun for all ages. (NOTE: bring CHILD-SIZE hat, shirt, and pants). Saturday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Fells Point Fun Festival
It’s BACK! The annual festival features live music, beer gardens, art cars, carnival rides and an international bazaar — plus plenty of kid-friendly activities. Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM – 7 PM in Fells Point. Did we mention 5 music stages? MORE INFORMATION

Second Annual Highlandtown Art Cart Derby
On Saturday, the streets of Highlandtown will come to life with a celebration of speed, art, music and community during the second annual All Ages Art Cart Derby and Art By The Pint exhibition. Each participating team has designed and built a gravity-powered cart that they will race down Gough Street during the event. After the race, prizes will be awarded for Fastest Cart, Coolest Cart Concept, Youngest-Oldest Art Cart Team and Fan Favorite. Teams are encouraged to dress up in costume, adopt team cheers and rally support for their drivers throughout the event. MORE INFORMATION

Gods, Myths and Mortals Opens at Port Discovery
Don’t miss your chance to explore ancient Greece without leaving Baltimore beginning Saturday, October 6th at Port Discovery! Their Gods, Myths and Mortals: Discover Ancient Greece exhibit opens this weekend and runs through January 21st. Saturday is also Toon Day at the Port (2 reasons to hear there this weekend!). FREE Hip Hop Dance Classes
Learn basic to intermediate level hip-hop choreography and dance fundamentals. No previous dance experience required. The one-hour class includes a cardio warm-up, stretching, and dance fundamentals. DogFest 2012
Activities, games, events and contests galore! Dog Bowling, Hide ‘n Seek, 20-Yard Dash, Bobbing for Bones, Paw Print Painting, Dog Contests judged by local celebrities, plus food, face painting, dog rescue groups, kids’ crafts and a moon bounce. Benefits the Baltimore Humane Society. Saturday from 10 AM – 6 PM at the Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown. MORE INFORMATION

Cardboard Challenge (and Monarch Butterflies) at the Science Center
Be a part of Global Play Day and use cardboard to design, make, and play arcade games. From shoebox skeeball to pizza box marble mazes, let your imagination go wild. We will provide the stuff if you bring the creativity. Global Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of Caine’s Arcade with the mission of encouraging engineering, cultivating creativity, and inspiring inventing in young people everywhere. Build times are Saturday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM; Sunday from 12:00 NOON to 4:00 PM. While you’re there, check out their newest IMAX movie (opens Friday!) — all about Monarch butterflies. There will be Monarch-related activities around the Science Center on Saturday, too! MORE INFORMATION

Puppets in the Garden
Black Cherry Puppet Theater will host three events on three consecutive Sundays in October, showcasing performances from some of the finest puppeteers from Baltimore and the region. The events will feature puppet-making workshops, giving participants the opportunity to create their own puppets and become puppeteers themselves. Puppet shows at 1pm and 3:30pm on Sunday. Jazz for Kids
Join the Baltimore Jazz Alliance on Sunday afternoon for a fun introduction to jazz for elementary school children featuring jazz versions of well-known children’s songs played by BJA’s five piece band and encouraging audience participation.
