Graco-SnugRide-ClickConnect-40One lesson I learned from the first “bringing home baby” go-round is that you DON’T need everything they say you do. There are definitely key essentials — and I’m working on my ‘must have’ lists for another post. But seventeen changes of newborn clothes and 52 swaddling blankets won’t be on there…

What will be on there? An infant car seat, of course! In fact, they won’t let you take the baby home from the hospital without one. But with all the models out there, how do you choose one that works for your family?

In my mind, there are a few necessities when it comes to an infant car seat: safety, portability, and growth potential. Growth potential is particularly important to me now that guidelines suggest children be in a rear-facing car seat until they are 2. I remember how scrunched up and uncomfortable the Bug was in her rear-facing seat at 12 months…

Enter the Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40. I had a chance to check out this carseat live at a Graco-sponsored media event last week. Fell hard. In fact, all of the expectant moms in the room where completely jazzed to learn about the new features (especially those of us on kiddo #2 who were slightly wary of the ‘keep your kids in a read facing car seat until their 2’ advice). Here are some of the features I love:

  • The SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 is the only infant car seat that provides rear-facing protection for babies from birth to 2 years old, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • The cars eat base adjusts with 8 recline positions for most leg room of any rear-facing car seat for baby comfort. {There is tons of leg room with this car seat — a huge plus in my book!}
  • No re-threading of car seat straps. Yes, you read that correctly. The Simply Safe Adjust™ harness systems allows parents to adjust the harness and headrest with just one hand to fit their baby’s height as their baby grows, all without having to re-thread the harness for extra convenience. It’s really as easy as moving a button.

The one downfall is that this new seat may not work with our existing stroller. We’ll have to check that out…

I received a complimentary Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 to try out with our new little bundle — but since he doesn’t arrive for a few more months, I’ll have to share those details with you later! All opinions expressed in this post as expressly my own.

What’s your go-to infant seat?

A word from Graco,  our sponsor:

The Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 – the first and only newborn to two-year infant car seat that actually grows with your baby from four pounds all the way up to 40 pounds. The car seat is designed for a parent on the go. The infant car seat can be easily removed from the base and used as a carrier when the infant is small, providing portability and convenience so you can easily move your infant in and out of the car without disturbing them.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recently made the recommendation to keep all children in rear-facing car seats until the age of 2. Graco set out to make this product so parents can keep infants rear facing longer while still keeping them comfortable.
