What’s (cool) for school this year? Two words: FUN STYLE.

According to Bridget Stickline, president and stylist at Wee Chic, there are lots of cool trends happening  in kids’ fashion. Deep, rich hues plum, purple and magenta are hot for girls — complete with fur and feather embellishments. Cozy sweater dresses and colored denim are ‘must have’ trends, too.

“It’s all about geek chic in the world of boys,” says Bridget. “Be on the lookout for rugby  sweaters, cleaned up plaids, collegiate colors and polished military looks right from men’s fashion to your mini-man.”

This year, keep local for your back to school shopping. With Maryland’s Tax Free Shopping Week starting this weekend, you’ve got a great incentive to hit up your favorite local boutiques and shops. From Sunday, August 12th through Saturday, August 18th, qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less are exempt from the Maryland 6% sales tax. {{SCORE!}}

We put a survey out to local shops that specialize in kids so we can help you navigate the back to school shopping spree. We’ve got the 411 on their current specials, favorite brands and what items they just can’t keep on the shelf. Not all of the merchandise mentioned qualifies for tax free, but it all qualifies to help you get your kids back to (cool). Some are offering special discounts for CP readers, too!
