Milkshake, Baltimore’s favorite kindie band, is taking the stage at the Creative Alliance on May 13th — all to celebrate moms.
“We want to celebrate moms with this pre-Mother’s Day concert and also provide an opportunity for moms and families to connect with various organizations that are pro-mom and pro-family,” said lead singer Lisa Mathews (a Baltimore mom herself!).
What does that mean? Before the concert, attendees can attend a mini-activist fair, full of organizations that support families in and around Baltimore. Participating organizations include Moms Clean Air Force, the Sierra Club, Baltimore Child Abuse Center, CASA Baltimore, Planned Parenthood of Maryland, Moms Rising, ShareBaby, and Chesapeake Down Syndrome Parenting Group.
During the fair, kids can have their faces painted, make cards for moms, and even get their picture taken with Moo — Milkshake’s mascot. All moms who attend will receive a flower and chocolate. Any family that brings a diaper donation for ShareBaby (who runs Baltimore’s diaper bank) will receive a complimentary Milkshake CD.
Milkshake has been getting kids and families to dance and sing together for over 15 years. The band has released five award-winning albums for kids, including the 2010 Grammy-nominated Great Day, along with a DVD and comic book. Their music has appeared as videos on Nick Jr., PBS KIDS, and the Emmy-winning ToddWorld cartoon series. Lisa also hosts Young At Heart, a radio show for families on WTMD 89.7 FM.
The concert starts at 1 pm and doors open at 12 noon. Tickets are $10 ($8 for Creative Alliance members). Kids two and under are free. Tickets are available in advance at the Creative Alliance website or at the door on the day of the event.
