Date night. In our house, the go-to standard is dinner out. While a nice meal out sans crayons is refreshing, it can get stale when it’s your go-to. So why not shake things up a bit?
Our friends at Eddie’s of Roland Park invited us (and some of our friends) to join them at North Charles Fine Wine & Spirits for a wine and whiskey tasting last week. If you haven’t been to North Charles Fine Wine, you’re in for a treat. Their library-style wine racks go from floor-to-ceiling, and their fantastic collection is only matched by the product knowledge of their team.
Palazzo Wines was one of our favorite finds at the tasting — their reds were resounding favorites with most of those in attendance. The California vineyard makes wines inspired by the Bordeaux region of France. Our not-so-scientific poll showed that most of the ladies in attendance was the Palazzo Napa Valley Red. A smooth, elegant blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvingnon. The guys? Most preferred the Palazzo Cabernet Franc. Cab Francs tend to be known for their versatility to pair with food… Coincidence?
In terms of the whites, we really loved the Palmaz Vineyards Amalia Chardonnay. (Full disclosure, I’m not much of a Chardonnay gal, and this was delicious.)
The team at North Charles graciously added a whiskey tasting to our private event, so we had a chance to enjoy Sagamore Spirit Rye Whiskey and compare with their Cask Strength Rye (a limited edition). If you’ve been looking for the Cask Strength, North Charles has it (just saying).
Two great things about wine tastings at North Charles? They’re held on Saturdays from 12 PM – 8 PM (so you can even sneak out for a date ‘day’ and skip the dinner/sitter scramble) and North Charles is right next to Eddie’s. After you find a new favorite bottle of wine, stop by their prepared foods and pick-up something to eat.
Book the sitter an extra hour and enjoy your own food-and-wine pairing at home, without having to worry about the kids!
Many thanks to Eddie’s of Roland Park and North Charles Fine Wines & Spirits for co-hosting with us! Photos by Laura Black.
