Meeting your friends at the barre just got easier. Now you can bring your baby to The Dailey Method Towson.
When Melanie Kozel was looking to open a fitness space in Towson, she scouted several franchise options. But she had trouble finding the type of corporate culture — as well as workout — that appealed to her.
“I’m not a mom yet,” said Melanie. “But I wanted to work with a company that really responded to the needs of families and moms. So when the day comes, I have the flexibility I’ll need.”
She settled on The Dailey Method, a national barre and cycle fitness organization that originated in San Francisco, and opened her Towson studio last January. Fun fact: Dailey Method’s original Marina studio is still the longest-running barre fitness studio on the west coast.
Providing classes and services that appealed to moms was a priority for Melanie. She wanted to create a bright, inviting family-friendly space and encourage moms to bring their kids.
“I could have had a bigger cycle studio, but ensuring there was a Kids’ Room was important to me,” said Melanie.
That’s right. Melanie’s studio is the only boutique studio in the area (that we know of) that offers childcare during mid-morning workout classes. It’s a service that benefits her clients and instructors.
But it’s not just about being able to bring your kids to the studio anymore. Now Melanie is inviting moms to bring their babies to the barre. This fall, the studio will offer Dailey Method Baby classes, so new moms can workout with their babies.
(Remember that scene from Sweet Home Alabama? When Reese Witherspoon says to Melanie Lynskey ‘You have a baby. In a bar.’ Bringing your baby to this barre is not only ok, it’s encouraged!)
The class is a slightly modified version of the Dailey Method’s traditional barre class that incorporates the best aspects of diverse disciplines such as dance, yoga, kinesiology, and pilates — modified for postpartum moms who are finding their core after baby. The only equipment new moms need to bring are a front pack carrier and baby blanket. The series kicks off on September 12th.
Nursing, feeding, walking, bouncing, napping and crying — it all happens during a Dailey Baby class. Even unauthorized climbing. I’m sure you can all relate to that!
It’s not just about the exercise. It’s also about bonding with your new bundle and other new moms.
So once you get the postpartum exercise ‘ok’ from your doctor, your next call should be Melanie to try out their new class!
