Milkshake is once again shaking up the kids’ music scene in Baltimore — and this time, they’re partnering with WTMD to do it.
Join them on Saturday, April 30th from 10 AM – 11 AM for WTMD’s FIRST Saturday morning concert for kids and families.
“I’m at home with the kids a few days a week, and the idea for this show came from something I kept hearing other parents say – I’m a big WTMD listener but it’s hard for me to take my young kids to your shows because they’re not at kid-friendly times,” said Sam Sessa, Baltimore music coordinator for WTMD. “So we wanted to try out a morning concert just for parents with small kids.”
If you’re a Baltimore parent, you know Milkshake. The Baltimore-based Grammy-nominated band is on a mission to make great rock music for kids that — and this is key — parents love, too.
“The WTMD studio stage is wonderful – such a great space. Perfect for children, really, since some of the furniture just begs to be climbed on, and jumped on – it’s like a dignified play-space, warm and inviting, with big cushy purple chairs!” said Lisa Mathews, Baltimore mom and lead singer of Milkshake. “I’m thinking the open space will invite the usual Milkshake mayhem, from a game of baseball to our Bottle of Sunshine.”
The space also has large television screens that will be airing cartoons before the show and while the band is playing. Of course, there are Milkshake videos; but they’ll be mixed with Schoolhouse Rocks and old school Warner Brothers. True “kindie” vibe.
“Since Milkshake will be playing live, we wanted to play cartoons which look cool and don’t need sound to connect with kids (and parents),” said Sam. “We’re big fans of cartoons from a couple decades ago, and will be playing a mix of Powerpuff Girls, Animaniacs, Duck Tales and My Little Pony.”
Admit it. You’re humming the Duck Tales theme song now, too…. Might solve a mystery, or rewrite history…
If you’re a new Milkshake groupie, be sure your littles wear their finest tutu on Saturday. Trust us.
Tickets are $10 for kids, $15 for adults, or you can buy a $40 family four pack of tickets. Children under 2 are free and we have it on good authority that BOTH the men’s and women’s restrooms have diaper changing stations. (Hey, that’s important, right?) All proceeds go to WTMD to support it’s programs and, if we’re lucky, start a brand new series of kids’ concerts in town! You can buy tickets here.
Can’t make it live? Be sure to tune in from 10 AM – 11 AM on the 30th and hear live, local kids music from Charm City’s favorite indie station!
