I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get stuck in a make-up rut. I’ll hit Sephora and pick up a few new eye shadow shades, experiment for 3.5 seconds, and then wear the exact same eye shadow/blush combo for six months. With a varying shade of pink lip gloss depending on what I’m wearing, of course. Date night? The same spiel. With red lipstick.

{It’s a statement lip, right?}

We’ve teamed up with Kristin Floyd from Tranquille Hair and Body to mix up your make-up and skin routine (and mine, too!). We’re kicking things off with a (cool) Valentine’s Day make-up look that’s perfect for date night. Added bonus? It’s easy to master and looks great on everyone. She swears.

Many thanks to Roxann Rogers (you might know her as the friendly face from Wells Liquors!) for being our mom-del for this tutorial!

The most important step in your make-up routine? The base — clean, moisturized skin. Since it’s winter, you’ll want a moisturizer that extra creamy and rich.

Next, apply a layer of liquid foundation. You want something sheer with build-able coverage. You’re just trying to even things out, not cover everything up! Don’t forget your under eye and eye lid. Just a little swipe of foundation goes a long way. Looking for a new foundation? you may want to give Youngblood a try.

On to concealer. Again, light touches. Just a little to the under eye, eyelid and anywhere else you want a little smoothing. Don’t go too heavy with concealer; there’s a fine line between conceal and reveal.

Blend, baby, blend! And then use a little powder to set everything. {Expert tip: Can you skip the liquid foundation and just use powder? Kristen says her preference is to always use liquid because it gives you better balance  and a more natural appearance — especially during the winter months. But if you have oily skin and it’s humid out, powder is your best bet}

Now for the eyes. Rather than smoky or blend, go for a wash of color. Kristen used dirty pink shade from Sephora + Pantone’s Color of Year palette and covered Roxann’s entire eyelid.  Nothing crazy. Easy peasy.

Then take a brown liner (this one just happens to be Sumatra waterproof kohl liner from Smashbox) and smudge it on. Little less intimidating than sleek lining. End with black mascara. “Black on brown is a great combo,” said Kristen. “It gives great depth to the eyes.”

Give your cheeks a touch of glow using Nars all-in-one facestick. (Apparently this is a must-have product and I had no idea!) The trick? Blend up into the hairline. You may even want to tap some in the center of the eyelid to have a little shimmer.

Usea natural lip liner and lightly outline your lips. Not looking for anything harsh. Light touches — with a liner like Youngblood Au Naturale lip pencil. Use a lip brush to blend and finish with a dirty pink gloss like Foxglove from Sephora + Pantone.

The last step? Set your look with a little Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray. Smells amazing, too.
