Must-read books, a can’t wait to try it new restaurant, why you shouldn’t do your kids’ homework, one reason to love Jimmy Fallon, and one of the most compelling articles we’ve read about the refugee experience in Baltimore… Here are this week’s headlines, curated with Baltimore moms in mind.

in case you missed it…

The refugee debate is everywhere — hot on everyone’s social media feeds, creeping into the adult sandbox at the playground, sparking heated conversation at the water cooler… The Baltimore Sun profiles the experiences of several refugee teens at Patterson High School in this poignant piece. No matter what your position, this is a must-read.

The National Book Awards were announced this week – including a list for Young People’s Literature. The adult fiction winner is actually a collection of six short stories… and we’re adding it to our must read list!

Sweetgreen is finally in Charm City! All locally-sourced. Try one of their delicious salad or bowl creations — or make your own. Roasted turkey with brussels sprouts and cranberry vinaigrette sounds heavenly, right? Opened on Fleet Street in Harbor East last week and (score!) has online ordering.

There’s a fine line between helping your child with a project and doing it for them. This NY Times op ed piece shares why you should let them do it on their own.

Baltimore Magazine rounded up the best of Baltimore’s holiday craft markets… including several new pop-up shops!

It’s been 25 years since Home Alone was released. (I’ll pause so you can let that sink in — seriously?!?!) But your kids can relive the holiday madness on the big screen… In honor of the anniversary, The Senator Theatre is running showings December 2nd – 6th.

Honestly had to research to see if it was true. Was just one of those things that popped in my newsfeed and made me wonder it it was for real…. YES, Jimmy Fallon teamed up with J. Crew to create the pocket square iPhone case. YES, 100% of proceeds go to charity.  YES, I don’t see how we could NOT put this in our holiday gift guide (comes out on November 28th).

Michael Phelps is going to be a dad. He and fiancé Nicole Johnson announced it on Instagram this week. Maybe a whole new line of cute Baltimore-made toddler swimwear is in the works? {Just speculating…} Congrats to the whole Phelps/Johnson family!

Wes Moore recently released a new book — this time it’s a young adult fiction novel aimed at teens written with Shawn Goodman. Booklist’s comment says it best: Brimming with hard realities about the choices we make, the friendships we keep, and the unlikely allies we find along the way, this affecting novel helps to fill the gaping hole left by Walter Dean Myers’ passing. The CP team will be catching up with Wes next week to find out more… stay tuned for the interview!
