Usually, I’m much quicker with thank yous. But I’ve (actually, both Pat and I) have been completely overwhelmed by the amazing turnout and support for our 3rd Annual Superhero Social. It’s the first year that the event has benefited Little Lion Challenge (which you know, is near and dear to our hearts) and it was a simply amazing night.
Amazing for a lot of reasons:
We had the best event partners who helped us create a fantastic evening for our mini superheroes and their families. We couldn’t have done it without you! A million thanks to Wee Chic Boutique, Shananigans Toy Shop, Becket Hitch, Port Discovery, St. James Academy, Yankee Doodle Art Studio, Urban Evolution, Play Your Way Place, CDP Photobooth Co., The Best of Luck, The Corner Pantry, The Weisse Miller Law Group, Professional Nursing Services, Party Pack Entertainment, Funny Faces Face Painting with Shari K, R & R Event Rentals, and Hula Honeys.
We had an incredible host for the evening. THANK YOU Green Spring Station (and merchants) for your warm hospitality.
The entertainment was terrific. Lisa and Mikel from Milkshake rocked the stage and everyone got down with some seriously super dance moves. Thank you for a fabulous show!
Our superheroes were funtabulous. All of the families and guests were so much fun.
We got to surprise a very worth superhero of our own. On a personal level, Saturday’s event was a huge celebration for us. If you follow (cool) progeny on Instagram, you know that on September 8th (exactly two-and-a-half years after it was placed), our Little Lion Man said so long to his trach. It was a huge milestone for him and while losing that hardware doesn’t mean the end of his medical needs, that moment was the end of a very long chapter in his story. For kids like LLM, it’s the care, knowledge, and research of amazing medical professionals that allow them to not only overcome challenges, but thrive. We are truly blessed to have an huge team of ‘superheroes’ that have helped our little guy really roar. But even among the very good, there are doctors in our life that continue to go above and beyond — not only for our family, but countless families in our region.
Dr. Margaret Skinner is one of those providers.
An assistant professor with the Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She’s an amazing ENT whose research efforts focus on pediatric airway disorders. And while I could list a whole bunch of medical jargon here that may or may not make sense to those outside the healthcare industry, the bottom line is Margaret helps kids breathe.
We were thrilled to have so many of her patients join us on Saturday night to honor her — and even more thrilled to surprise everyone by announcing 100% of the ticket sales for this year’s Superhero Social were going to her research fund. That’s $2500.
For a pay-it-forward “project” that started as providing small care packages to parents with children in ICU, we are thrilled that Little Lion Challenge has grown to the point where we can start to support the efforts of medical providers caring for those children as well as offer comfort to their families. Thanks to all of YOU we continue to make quite a roar.
And our family is very grateful.
