Have you tried FootGolf yet? Soccer meets golf. It’s the newest sport craze and the (cool)est family outing.
McDaniel College in Westminster recently opened the first Foot Golf Course in the greater Baltimore area. Think game-of-golf rules with soccer balls and no clubs. The result? 18 holes of soccer fun that works for all ages. Including preschoolers.
We had a chance to check it out last night and play a few holes.Players tee off using a size five soccer ball (size four for the little guys) and aim for the 21-inch diameter holes t and are marked with yellow flags. Given that the average hole is 150 yards, we played ‘best ball.’ The perfect way to keep everyone on our ‘team’ moving with a two-year-old and six-year-old. Older kids will love playing regulation — against friends or parents. The best part is you don’t need to have any special skill to play and it’s fun for everyone.
According to Scott Moyer, director of golf and head men’s golf coach, people are loving Foot Golf. Several organizations are planning Foot Golf fundraisers. Golf tournaments for all ages.
The FootGolf course is actually on the 9 hole golf course at McDaniel. It’s a little odd to think that people are teeing off while you’re playing but we had no issues. One golfer even let us “play through.”
It’s reasonably priced, too. Kids are just $8 and adults are $10.
Want to give FootGolf a try? McDaniel is offering a FREE family open house this Sunday (July 26th)! Head to McDaniel from noon to five for prizes, giveaways and Foot Golf instruction from the pros. Mix 106.5 will be there, too.
If you can’t make Sunday, definitely schedule some time to get out to the course and play with your kids! Highly recommend making a stop at Hoffman’s on the way home for ice cream.
