We are thrilled to announce this new four-week musical learning experience for kids 5-10!
Bienvenue à la classe de Musique et Marionettes! Here you will sing French songs, make a marionette, create other puppets, and expand your cultural horizons. Ventriloquist, composer, musician, and well experienced music teacher, Valerie Leonhart Smalkin, of Silly Goose & Val, will fill each of the 4 after school classes with knowledge, music, creativity, and joy. Designed for students ages 5-10. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each week will build on knowledge gained the previous week.
Cost: $75 + $15 material fee
Location: The Room at Wee Chic, Green Spring Station
Dates: Tuesdays in November, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM (November 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th)
Singer, composer, and ventriloquist Valerie Leonhart Smalkin born 1950 in Baltimore, MD was one of the writers, performers, and co-producers of the Emmy award winning television program “It’s Kindertime” on ABC affiliate WMAR-TV 2, in Baltimore. She composed and performed the musical version of Priscilla Cummings’ International Literacy Award winning book,Chadwick the Chesapeake Crab; published The Early Childhood Curriculum with Karen Rupprecht; and composed Babel: The Oratorio, Signs: An Epiphany Musical, and Darrell: The Draggin’ Dragon. She most recently authored the book/CD Springtime Dance, illustrated by Kimberly Hopkins, khopdesigns, LLC, published by Small Kin Music.
Val graduated cum laude from Maryland’s Goucher College in 1971, having majored in Philosophy, and also cum laude from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1977. She practiced law for 10 years, but eventually returned to her first love: music. Val has performed since her early teens as a musician and singer, and found her love of puppets and families in 1987, as the founding partner of Val & Pam KinderSingers. Pam continued as Pam, The KinderSinger, and Val as Silly Goose & Val, and the fun has never stopped.
But most of all Val, as Silly Goose & Val, enjoys touring school, libraries, and live stage theaters in the Mid-Atlantic area, New York, and Belgium with her puppets, marionettes, comedy, and music.
