When you think of back to school, you immediately think of school supplies. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the kindergarten supply list for the Bug’s school included things like ‘spare change of clothes’ and ‘art smock’ rather than 3 composition books and a red marking pencil. Since we had already gotten her supplies in order earlier this summer (and painstakingly picked out the perfect Pottery Barn Kids’ backpack), our first back to school task was to purchase supplies and donate them to House of Ruth. A way to help rev up excitement for school while paying it forward (see our #littlelionchallenge initiative!).
The Bug opened her first countdown box this morning at breakfast. There was some initial disappointment that it wasn’t full of candy — but then she was a Bug on a mission to help other kids!
The House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation’s leading intimate partner violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find the safety and security that so many of us take for granted. Wee Chic Boutique has been collecting supplies on their behalf for the last week, and we plan to drop ours by their Green Spring Station store tomorrow.
Collecting School Supplies for House of Ruth
Armed with a $20, the Bug and I went to Target to see how many of these things we could help House of Ruth collect:
- 5 and 3 subject spiral notebooks
- standard size notebooks
- composition notebooks
- loose leaf paper
- pocket folders
- subject dividers
- pencil boxes
- colored pencils
- glue sticks
- round-tipped scissors
- construction paper
- hand sanitizer
- boxes of tissues
- all sizes of book bags
- index cards
- paper reinforcers
- tissue paper
- flashcards for pre-school and elementary school students
Want to help us? You can collect these items and drop them by Wee Chic early this week, too!
Little Lion Challenge
The Bug has been giggling and watching all of the ALS ice bucket challenge videos from our friends and family hit Facebook lately. She decided that we should make our own #LittleLionChallenge video and challenge others to pay it forward. Take a look — and make your own!
