(Pi)e Day at the Maryland Science Center
If there are two things that should be paired together, it’s Party and Pi(e). March 14th, or 3.14, marks the celebration of the mathematical constant, Pi, which is used to calculate the circumference of a circle. The Maryland Science Center is ready to celebrate everything Pi, from eating pie to reciting Pi, to exposing the secrets of Pi. Friday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
Family Shabbat Happy Hour Kids can enjoy open play in all the playrooms and explore the Jewish Discovery Zone at the Downtown Baltimore JCC, while adults can enjoy appetizers, drinks, and blessings with Challah. $7 member families and $12 guest families. Friday from 5 PM – 7 PM.

Port Discovery Children’s Museum 15th Birthday Bonanza
Port Discovery Children’s Museum is turning 15, and invites the community to help celebrate with a special reduced admission of just $5 on Saturday, March 15. Port Discovery’s 15th Birthday Bonanza will feature a full day of special birthday-themed programs and activities, including: interactive storytelling during Circle Time; music with Mr. Norman; Pop Up Science demonstrations; “Magical Mats” yoga; appearances and prizes from the Chick-Fil-A cows; paper birthday “cake” craft projects; face painting and more. Saturday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
Book Thing Family Bike Party
A chilly winter morning is perfect for settling in to read a good book… after you have warmed up on a fun ride with the Baltimore Family Bike Party, of course! The Book Thing is a special destination for families (and people of all ages!) who love books and love a good deal because the Book Thing gives books away for free! Join us on a gentle “Tour du Charles Village.” Saturday at 9:30 AM. Saturday morning should be warm and dry, before it gets cold and snowy again on Sunday evening. So get on your bike, come check out the free books, neighborhood playground, and our year-round farmers market on the March Baltimore Family Bike Party! The Book Thing opens at 9:00 a.m., so you can get your books before the ride or afterwards.
Zoo Bloom + Lion Cubs!
Luke, Leia and Zuri, the lion cubs at The Maryland Zoo, are growing by leaps and bounds under the care and supervision of the Maryland Zoo staff. The public is invited to watch cubs from inside the Giraffe Yard from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Saturday. Zoo Bloom will be in full swing, so it’s a great reason to get out of the house and head to the Zoo! Zoo Bloom runs 10 AM – 4 PM.
Jack & the Giant
On Saturday, March 15th, as part of its annual Family Concert Series, Kinetics Dance Theatre will premier Jack & the Giant. Written and choreographed by Artistic Director Lauren Snyder, the production puts a fresh twist on the classic beanstalk tale. The company will present Jack & the Giant in two showings, 11am and 1pm, on Saturday, March 15th at the Howard County Center for the Arts’ Black Box Theatre.
Luck O’ the Ridge

Shamrock Shindig will feature live music by Philly-based Celtic band Barleyjuice. With five studio albums and a double CD collection to date, Barleyjuice is currently one of the most beloved Celtic rock bands in the United States. Musicians Kyf Brewer, Keith “Swanny” Swanson, Shelley Weiss, Eric Worthington and Gregor Schroeder are a grand group of talented tunesmiths and prodigious performers, and the absolute best time you can have at a concert! This event is FREE to attend, with the Shamrock Pass for Children and Unlimited Drink Wristband available for additional purchase. The Shamrock Pass for Children includes a shamrock derby hat, green beads, Irish button, Irish flag, Irish fun band bracelet, two crafts, a temporary tattoo and cookie decorating. Saint Patrick’s Snakes Legend has it that Ireland has Saint Patrick to thank for its lack of snakes, but we’re thankful for the many snakes that call Robert E. Lee Park home! Come meet several friendly serpents and create a slithery craft. Ages 5 and up. Sunday from 2 PM – 4PM.
Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Baltimore celebrates its Irish heritage with its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The celebration is a tradition that’s been around for more than 50 years. Participants promote Irish culture, music, song and dance on a route that begins at the Washington Monument and winds its way south. The 59th Baltimore St. Patrick Parade and the Shamrock 5K Race will be held, rain or shine, on Sunday, March 16, 2014! Parade starts at 2 PM.
