Australia Day at the National Aquarium
Wishing you could warm up this winter with a trip Down Under? Join National Aquarium on Sunday, January 26, for Australia Day! Get close to more than 1,800 native Australian animals including freshwater crocodiles, turtles, birds and lizards in the Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extremes exhibit. Experience hourly animal encounters throughout the event. Enjoy feedings of numerous animals, including the crocodiles! Learn all about the meaning behind Aboriginal paintings and create your own art by painting on the rocks in the exhibit. Other activities include interactive didgeridoo performances, recycled crafts and more. 10 AM – 3 PM. Volunteer Open House at the Maryland Zoo
If you think the Maryland Zoo animals are wild, come meet their volunteers! The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore will be hosting an Open House for prospective volunteers on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on the Zoo’s Mansion House Porch. Peabody Opera performs an abridged version of Humperdinck’s immortal classic about a brother and sister lost in the woods, a gingerbread house and a witch as part of the CandleKids Series! This production is a fabulous introduction for young audiences to the joys of opera. The music, costumes, scenery, and kid-friendly cast of singers are bound to delight family audiences of all ages! National Marionette Theatre in Pinocchio
Watch one of the longest running, touring marionette theaters in the United States perform Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. Follow the most well-known wooden boy as he struggles with becoming human. Founded in 1967, this award-winning company specializes in adaptations of popular stories using marionettes as the performance medium. As the sons of artistic director David Syrotiak, puppeteers David and Peter Syrotiak have been building and performing with the company since they were teenagers.
