I’m going to be honest. I’m not that crafty {well, not in the Martha-sense, anyway}. Parenthood has made me more artsy but, historically, I was always the kid in school with the diorama that looked like, well, a kid had made it.

So when it comes to arts and crafts, I look for the ease factor. Because I have a preschooler that accumulates more self-created art than Van Gogh on Five-Hour-Energy, I also look for Bug-creatables that can be displayed somewhere other than our fridge or wall.

Fruit stamping seems to be synonymous with preschool and mini lady apples are perfect for pint-sized fingers! We found these at Whole Foods, but you can find them in many upscale markets around town. A little fabric paint and some $4 hemstitch napkins from Target and you’re all set.

Fun + Ease + Pairs with Tea? I’m sold.

Makes a perfect giftable for Grandma, too.

How to Make Apple-Stamped Napkins

Supplies

  • 1 Lady Apple (miniature apple)
  • Fabric Paint (we used red and gold)
  • Fabric Markers (for stem and leaves)
  • 1 brown paper bag (to cut pieces to place under stamp so paint doesn’t soak through to your table)
  • Linen Napkins (however many you want to make!)
  • Small Paintbrush

How to Make the Napkins

Start with an apple (the smaller, the better for napkins!). Slice it in half {of course, this is the ‘grown up’ part of the craft}.

Place a piece of brown paper bag under your napkin (wherever you want to stamp). Dip one-half of the apple in your paint of choice. I did the first stamp on a piece of brown paper bag before stamping the napkin.

Stamp the napkin. Use the paintbrush to fill in wherever there is napkin showing through.

Use your fabric markers to add leaves and a stem.

Allow to dry. I love how different the red and gold look! I see some holiday stamping in our future… {Wouldn’t the gold make a fun Thanksgiving table?}
