I’m a sucker for fall flavors. Pumpkins, apples, cinnamon, everything toasted and toasty warm. My husband and solid-food-eating kid? Both are ice cream lovers, much preferring a scoop of the cold stuff to baked treats.

I take my apple pie warm. My husband only eats it frozen. (Yes, frozen. Yes, I knew about this when we were dating and still married him. Yes, he is as American as baseball — just not apple pie, apparently). The Bug skips the pie altogether in favor of the a la mode.

So this apple pie sundae is a happy meeting of the minds. Warm (and fresh!) apple compote over vanilla ice cream. Add a few drizzles of caramel or maple syrup for a super indulgent treat.

Just another #deliciousmoment.

Apple Pie Sundae

  • 2 Fresh Apples (We love Honeycrisp in this house), Diced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Handful of Raisins
  • Cinnamon
  • Sprinkle of Light Brown Sugar
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Optional Maple Syrup or Caramel Sauce for drizzling

How to Make the Sundaes:

1. In a sauce pan over medium heat, melt butter. Add apples, sugar and cinnamon and saute until tender (about 10-12 minutes).  Toss in raisins for the last minute or two. {Note, I know this is not the traditional way to make apple compote. Consider this the quick cheaters version. If you love this, you’ll love my cheaters version of homemade apple sauce.}

2. Scoop vanilla ice cream into bowls. Spoon apple compote over top.

3. Drizzle with maple syrup or caramel.

4. Enjoy!
