I’m a firm believer that you should play with your food. Ice Cream is no exception. Since July is National Ice Cream Month, we’ve got the cold creamy treat on the brain. Here are five different books that will help you join in the celebration with your favorite pint-sized foodie. Don’t forget to add a double scoop of your favorite flavor with sprinkles.

Yummy Ice Cream: A Book About Sharing (Hello, Friends!)
by Emma Quay, Illustrated by Anna Walker
The whimsical illustrations in this board book, perfect for your tiniest ice cream connoisseur, are  both darling and captivating. Panda, Sheep, and Owl may be different, but that’s what makes playing together so much fun. All of the Hello, Friends! books explore different preschool concepts. Join the stylish characters as they create ice cream masterpieces!

Wemberly’s Ice-Cream Star
by Kevin Henkes
Kevin Henkes has a funtabulous collection of mice full of personality (think Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse), and Wemberly is no exception! In this cute board book, Wemberly finds that patience—just like a frosty treat—will go a long way.

I Scream! Ice Cream!: A Book of Wordles
by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Illustrated by Serge Bloch
Truthfully, this book isn’t about ice cream per se. It’s full of entertaining wordles! {What do “I Scream!” and “Ice Cream!” have in common? Nothing—besides the fact that they sound the same.} It’s silly and smart. You and the kids willl love it … just like you loved Amy’s other books Little Pea and Little Oink.

Should I Share My Ice Cream? (An Elephant and Piggie Book)
by Mo Willems
We are HUGE Mo Willems fans. He had us with Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and won us over with Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale. Should I Share My Ice Cream is a story that will delight kiddos as a read-aloud and is simple enough for beginning readers to read independently or with some minimal guidance. The double scoop? The sharing lesson. Willems stylized illustrations are like getting sprinkles on your sundae.

The Ice Cream King
by Steve Metzger, Illustrated by Julie Downing
A delicious rhyming adventure! When Teddy visits the new ice cream shop in town, he’s magically transported into a kingdom of ice cream fountains, whipped cream lanes, and volcanoes that erupt with vanilla fudge. A great preschool read.
