Family-Friendly Fun in Baltimore - May 31 - June 2, 2013

Last weekend may have been the ‘unofficial’ start of summer, but the first weekend in June is REALLY when all the warm-weather events kick into high gear! There are lots of opportunities for Baltimore families to get out and about this weekend — and a few fab ideas for date night, too! Here are our best bets for kid-friendly fun:

529 Day at the Maryland Zoo
Thanks to the College Savings Plans of Maryland, the first 529 children to enter the Zoo will pay a special price of only $5.29 for admission, which is more than half off regular child’s admission, on Saturday! Representatives from the College Savings Plans of Maryland will also be onsite to answer questions. MORE INFORMATION

Escape to India at The Walters
Sail down the Ganges River to a place of vibrant color, spicy smells and mesmerizing music. Spend the entire month of June escaping to India with us! Travel through the Thar desert to collect sand to create your mandala. Wear your rhythmic jewelry and listen to the sound of each step as you hike the Himalayas. Join us as we explore the outline of an elephant using light – make sure to hold on tight as he carries us on a journey through the art of India! Charles Village Festival
Start the summer right … enjoy continuous live entertainment on two stages, the variety of crafters, beer/wine and food vendors. For the kids, enjoy the kids games and face painting. We even have a local neighborhood garden walk for those of you who would like to stroll about, taking in the scents and sights of the neighborhood. Admission to the two day event at Wyman Park Dell is free. Saturday and Sunday starting at 11 AM! MORE INFORMATION

Gunpowder River Arts Festival at Boordy Vineyards
The Gunpowder River Artfest is an annual community event sponsored by NBCAF. This years Artfest features 80 fine art and craft vendors painters, potters, jewelers, hand-crafted soaps, massages, and more! Live music by Nelly’s Echo (featured on Season 3 of The Voice) and Midlife Crisis. Food and drink by Food by Fire Catering, Bricker’s Famous French Fries, Groovy Girl Cupcakes, and Prigel Creamery. The Gathering: A Tale of Two Cities
Vote for your favorite food truck as Baltimore and D.C. trucks battle to be named champion at this annual event. Features live music and kids’ activities. Rash Field this Saturday from 12 PM – 10 PM. $5 in advance, $8 at the door, Kids 12 and Under FREE. Ticket packages with kozies and tees available, too! MORE INFORMATION

No Bones About It
Explore skulls alphabetically at Irvine Nature Center. Start at A and by the time we get to Z, you’ll have the skills necessary to solve the mystery of whose skull it is…or at least make an educated guess. A great skill to learn on National Trails Day! Saturday from 1PM – 2PM. MORE INFORMATION

Wine4Water
One of our favorite city playgrounds is about to get better — and you can help by enjoying an evening out! Channel your inner child and head to Our Playground at Stadium Place on June 1 for WINE4WATER to help The Friends of Our Playground kick off their 2013 fundraising campaign. Play, have a glass of wine, listen to Mongrel (a versatile jam band!), groove with the Transcendence Tribal Bellydance Collective, and bid on some ah-mazing silent auction items! Proceeds from the evening go toward building a much-needed water fountain on the playground. Kids who play hard get thirsty! Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Urban Beach Days at West Shore Park
Urban Beach Days happen most Sundays this summer at West Shore Park from 10:30am to 2pm! Grab a beach towel, lather on the sunscreen and “layout” at Baltimore’s newest Urban Beach. Food trucks, a DJ will be playing fun tunes, “sip the day away” on your choice of beer ($3), wine ($4) or mixed drinks ($6) & a Waterfront Kids Play Area! HELLO Summer!!! MORE INFORMATION

Make a Surreal Self at The Baltimore Museum of Art
Make Sunday afternoon family time without spending a dime. Every Sunday, join the Baltimore Museum of Art for activities the entire family can enjoy.
