make it: glitter ball ornaments

Glitter Ball Ornaments - (cool) progeny

I know what you’re thinking: preschoolers and glitter? In the house? No thanks! But I promise you this fun {and adorable} ornament project is low on the mess scale. Added bonus? The glitter is inside the ornament — which means no mess on the tree or in the storage box either! You may see similar tutorials online that use glass ornaments. I prefer the plastic ones for obvious reasons.

The hardest part of this craft project was finding the key ingredient: Pledge Laminate Floor Cleaner with Future Shine. Other than that, it’s pretty simple and straight-forward. Not to mention beautiful! A great way to jazz up your tree or a perfect gift.

what you’ll need

  • Clear plastic ornaments (nabbed them for $1 an ornament at Michael’s)
  • Fine Glitter (not the kid glitter, but the fancy schmancy adult glitter. Usually in the paper craft aisle)
  • Pledge Laminate Floor Cleaner with Future Shine (has the blue top)
  • Ribbon
  • Paper funnel (or a spare card envelope; just snip off the end to make a funnel)
  • Scissors

how to make the ornaments

STEP ONE: Gather your clear plastic ornaments and remove the top ornament hanger. Don’t lose them! We’ll need them back.

STEP TWO: Put a ‘puddle’ {in the Bug’s words!} of floor finish into the ornament and swirl so that the inside is completed coated. Drain excess back into the bottle.

STEP THREE: Using the paper funnel, pour glitter into the ornament. Using a swirling motion, coat the interior of the ornament with glitter. Believe it or not, it doesn’t take much! Dump excess glitter into a discard bowl. Place the top hanger back in the ornament.

STEP FOUR: Tie ribbons around the top and place into a translucent take-out box container for gifting. Put in a bowl on the table or hang on the tree. We wrote names on some of them with a sharpie paint pen. Tres (cool).

When not scouting the best in everything kid and family, you'll probably find her running The Weisse Group or adventuring around town with her daughter (the Bug) and husband. Can be won over with a good glass of wine or something homemade. Addicted to Pinterest. Only pretends to know what she's doing with her SLR, even though she's got a fantastic lens on it. Thankful it does most of the work for her.

we are modern family

Who, us? We’re putting (cool) back in to the crazy, upside down world of modern parenting. All about raising fun, fashionable, active little thinkers with a strong cuppa coffee on the side.
