blink pink: breast cancer awareness and local mom/daughter event

October 1st feels like the first day of fall to me. Technically, it’s been fall for over a week. But there is something about flipping that proverbially calendar page to October (because, who really has a ‘real’ one anymore?) that fall feels ‘real.’ I finally {and, with profound sadness} put away the sandals and flip flops in favor of closed-toe flats and boots.

It also marks the beginning of breast cancer awareness month. Let’s look at the facts:

• About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
• In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
• Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. Just under 30% of cancers in women are breast cancers.
• In 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the US.

This year, (cool) progeny is proud to partner with Blink Pink for their annual Spartea event. We know that we have readers and friends out there that have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and breast cancer survivors. We know the stress and toll that can take you on you and family. So we’re partnering with Baltimore’s best kid’s day spa to spread the word about their upcoming day of pampering. An event to bring local breast cancer patients and their daughters a little respite from the treatments and little focus on – them.

SparTea — the pink door spa — is a full service day spa for girls located on Falls Road in Baltimore. SparTea features mini manis and pedis, jewelry beading, kid’s yoga, flavored teas, and delicious cupcakes. During this event, moms and daughters will be treated to FREE mani/pedis, bracelet-making, massages, make-up application, healthy treats, mom and me photo sessions, and more!
