It’s the last weekend of September (that flew, didn’t it?). The weather is supposed to be gorgeous — hello, 75 degrees and mostly sunny — and there is no shortage of opportunities to get out and about. Museum Day LIVE!
All day Saturday! In the spirit of Smithsonian Museums, who offer free admission everyday, Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket…for free. The Legacy Chase at Shawan Downs
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, GBMC Foundation will host Shawan Downs’ signature event, The Legacy Chase, to benefit Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Now in its 12th year, this annual tradition draws in more than 7,000 equestrian fans and families from throughout the region. Don’t miss the stick pony race! MORE INFO

Baltimore Book Festival
The Baltimore Book Festival offers tons of fun activities for children and their families. Our favs? The Storybook Parade on Saturday at 11:30 AM (Children can join their favorite storybook, costumed characters for a festive parade with live music through the festival. The parade steps off from the West Park and continues throughout the festival grounds. This year’s stars are: Pokey Puppy, Toot and Puddle, Peter Rabbit and Llama Llama.), the Crafts Corridor and the Children’s Bookstore Stage! Saturday and Sunday. Mt. Vernon Family Consignment Sale
Join Mt. Vernon Families-Baltimore for our inaugural consignment sale Saturday, September 29 from 10 AM – 4 PM— the same weekend as the Baltimore Book Festival. New and gently used maternity, nursing and children’s items will be for sale. The event will take place at the Mt. Vernon Children’s Park, located at Calvert and Madison, and 25% of the proceeds will go toward park repairs and revitalization. MORE INFO

Honey Harvest Festival at Oregon Ridge
Bee lovers and beekeepers are headed to the Oregon Ridge Nature Center for the celebration of the Honey Harvest Festival. Members of the Central Maryland Beekeepers Association will kick off the festivities on Saturday with hive demonstrations, beeswax candle dipping, and mead (honey wine) making. Children’s activities include face painting, puppet shows, and a petting zoo with chicken and sheep. Food and drink will be sold. Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM. MORE INFO

Ron Konkus Memorial Fly-In & Family Fun Weekend
Baltimore’s largest celebration of remote control airplanes takes off at the Southwest Area Park Modelers’ Fly-In and Family Fun Weekend. Dozens of local hobbyists will maneuver, soar, dip and dive R/C airplanes, jets and helicopters—some with wingspans up to 12 ft. long-hundreds of feet in the air. Street Beat Festival in Federal Hill
Sunday September 30, 2012 from 11am to 7pm marks one of Baltimore’s biggest festivals of the season, historic Federal Hill’s Street Beat. Admission is FREE! This is an exciting event that will be located on 6 blocks of Charles Street and Cross Street. The festival will feature live music on three stages, arts & crafts, and a ton of food and drink. There will even be a Kids’ Kross Street section for children and families. This will surely be a fun festival and great way for you to meet your neighbors, have fun with friends, and support the businesses of Federal Hill. MORE INFO

FREE Youth Baseball Clinic at the Y
Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Y of Central Maryland will team up with former Orioles minor league baseball players for a FREE Youth Baseball Camp at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Family Center Y. Run by Baltimore’s Professional Baseball Training staff and presented by Baltimore City Council President Bernard C.“Jack” Young, this camp is offered to youth ages 10-13. All youth will participate in hitting, infield, outfield and running drills and will be evaluated by Professional Baseball Training.  Parents and league administrators will receive the evaluations, which will give players the tools to refine instruction heading into next baseball season.
