According to the United States Professional Tennis Association, “while other sports can provide excellent health benefits and some can promote mental and emotional growth, none can compete with tennis in delivering overall physical, mental and emotional gains to those who play.”

Who wouldn’t want to help develop their kids physical, mental and emotional well being?

Luckily, Charm City area parents have a great resource right in our backyard: Green Spring Racquet Club. Offering tennis instruction for ages 3 through adult, Green Spring Racquet Club offers a range of weekly instruction, camps, s, league play, and USTA tournaments.

This fall, GSRC is bringing the GRIPS program to our area — and are the first tennis club in the state of Maryland to do so. Think of GRIPS like a martial art belt system for tennis. Your child is evaluated by an instructor and placed into a particular color category based on his or her skill level. To identify their particular level, your child will receive that color grip for his or her racquet. After they master the skills that correlate with a particular color (read: skills test), they move onto the next level and receive a new colored grip. Parents and caregivers can monitor their child’s progress through an individualized webpage.

“We’re very excited to bring the GRIPS program to Baltimore,” said Janet Paulsen, general manager of GSRC. The program will be integrated into their TAG (Tennis Academy at GSRC) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) 10-And-Under QuickStart Program.

Interested in learning more about tennis for your mini-me or yourself? Head to GSRC’s Fall Open House on September 8th (9 AM – 3 PM) and 9th (10 AM – 2 PM). Tour the club, meet the instructors, meet Quicko (the GSRC mascot — maybe even play a round against him!), and meet the pint-sized pros of GSRC’s 14 and under advanced and intermediate USTA Junior Team Tennis teams. Both teams won sectionals and will play in the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships in South Carolina this October. A small donation to their trip will earn you a bit of court time with the champs, too.

Did we mention snacks? A GREAT family outing!
