belly chronicles: summer to fall maternity style

I had to do it. I had to break into the eight gallon rubber box containing all of my maternity clothes from the last go-round a few weeks ago. {I don’t remember showing this much in months 4-5 last time…) Amazingly, everything I saved fit in one box. Then again, after you wear the same clothes for months on end, all you really want to do is burn them. In that post-maternity haze I may have done just that.

I have all the wrong seasons. Of course, right? I have summer maternity clothes — but they are bigger than the belly right now and will be no good come January. So, I hopped online and ordered a few things. {{Side mini-rant: Why isn’t there a local boutique in the Baltimore area that carries more than one or two maternity/nursing tanks? Seems like a HUGE opportunity…}}

The dilemma now? Taking those few summer staples into fall. Luckily, Polyvore has come to the rescue.

I’m apologizing in advance to all Pinterest fanatics. If you haven’t discovered Polyvore, this will become a new obsession. The social media site lets you mix and match different clothing items from various lines and create style boards before you go shopping. If you want, you can then share those style boards on all of your social media networks and inspire your friends.

Here are a few ideas for taking summer maternity staples right into fall. With comfort and style BOTH in mind {budget, too!.}

Weekend Getaway

Take that summer chevron sundress right into fall! Add a cardigan and ballet flats plus the ultimate preggo accessory: the scarf.

Weekday Errands

Fuchsia is hot for fall — so your summer dress still works! Add a denim jacket (your non-maternity one will still work as long as you’re not in need of buttoning it), scarf and boots for a breezy late September day.

All About Comfort

Your favorite maternity t-shirt dress is a fall staple. A cardigan and leggings make it perfect for couch snuggling, preschool drop off or that grocery store run.

Dinner+ Movie Date Night

Dress up the summer maternity tank for an easy date-night outfit. A dressy cardigan, clutch and heels — you’re ready to go! {PS — the necklace? Not exactly budget friendly (although it’s pretty great, huh?) Use what you have!}

Work Friendly White Tee

The white tee or tank is a maternity wardrobe staple — in any season! Pair it with a black pencil skirt and drape front cardigan for a comfy, work-friendly look. Pop ‘neutrals’ with colorful accessories (like red).
